There are many ways to help someone using Touco. If you’ve already been invited to be a trusted friend, you were likely chosen because your support is great as it is.
We still recommend you both go through the following guide together to get the best out of using Touco.

How to support someone
Once your friend knows they have your support, establish some basic rules. This means making a plan for when an alert is sent, or in case of an emergency.
Use the templates below to start this conversation together.
The following is an example of how you can communicate your preferences when it comes to supporting someone. Use this as a starting point.
I will be your trusted friend for as long as you need me.
When I see an alert, I will reply within 24 hours.
When I reply, I will text you.
If I don’t hear back, I will call you.
I will reply evenings and weekends.
I can’t reply Monday to Friday work hours.
In an emergency
Have you done everything expected of you?
Are you overwhelmed or need extra support?
Does your friend need help from their bank or GP?
If you answered yes to any of the above, and are worried your friend’s situation is not improving, we recommend the following.
Use our resorces
Encourage your friend to visit our emergency resources on our support page.
Ask them to reach out
Suggest your friend get in touch with their GP or bank, or help with this if you can.
Reach out to others
Reach out to others who can support your friend, like friends and family, where it's safe to do so.
Talk to someone
Get in touch with The Samaritans who can help advise you further on supporting your friend.
If your friend is in danger
speak to someone now
Call 999 if your friend is in immediate danger. You can ask to stay on the line while you wait for help to arrive.
You can also advise them to call Samaritans on 116 123, which is available 24 hours and free.
